Grazing intensities and poultry litter fertilization levels on corn and black oat yield PAB
Adami,Paulo Fernando; Pelissari,Adelino; Moraes,Anibal de; Modolo,Alcir José; Assmann,Tangriani Simioni; Franchin,Marcia Fernanda; Cassol,Luís César.
The objective of this work was to assess the effect of poultry litter fertilization levels on corn and black oat yield using different grazing intensities, poultry litter levels (mixture of manure and bedding material) and a chemical fertilization level. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement with four replicates. Black oat + ryegrass grazing intensities, characterized by different pasture sward management, with animal entrance at 25, 30 and 35-cm heights and exit at 5.0, 10 and 15-cm heights, were established at the main plots. After the grazing period, corn was grown at the subplots with four levels of poultry litter (0, 4,953, 9,907 and 14,860 kg ha-1), aiming to supply 0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1 of...

Improvement of production and fruit quality of pitayas with potassium fertilization Agronomy
Fernandes, Denison Ramalho; Moreira, Rodrigo Amato; Cruz, Maria do Céu Monteiro da; Rabelo, Josimara Mendes; Oliveira, Jéssica de.
Pitaya is a fruit that is becoming promising for cultivation around the world due to the quality of its fruits in terms of taste and their peculiar external shape. Because it is a recenttly cultivated crop, information about fertilization is essential to enable its production. In this sense, this study was performed aiming to evaluate different doses of K2O for pitaya cultivation. Hylocereus undatus and Hylocereus polyrhizus were studied under field conditions. Pitayas were cultivated at a 3 × 3m spacing, and four doses of K2O were tested: 0, 50, 100, and 200 g plant-1, with a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement distributed in a randomized block design. The production per plant (kg and number of fruits) was evaluated in the production cycles of 2013/2014,...

The Possibility of a Green Revolution in Sub-Saharan Africa: Evidence from Kenya AgEcon
Otsuka, Keijiro; Yamano, Takashi.
It is widely believed that a Green Revolution similar to the one achieved in Asia is impossible in Sub-Saharan Africa. Although grain yields have been stagnant in this region, there are some signs of the intensification of farming systems in the face of growing population pressure on limited land resources. In this paper we focus on the new farming system based on the use of manure produced by dairy cows, which may be termed an “Organic Green Revolution.” Using the farm household data collected from Kenya, this paper demonstrates that the Organic Green Revolution has a potential of doubling maize yields in highlands of Kenya.

Potential Zoning for rice production in the Lower North was carried out in Kamphaeng Phet and Tak Provinces during 2010-2011. The main objective was to create a database for area and appropriate technology for rice production. Procedures started with a survey on soil fertility and rice yield from the areas having soil suitable for rice growing. This was followed by the investigation on appropriate technologies to increase yield potential. Results have shown that the paddy fields in Kamphaeng Phet had an average pH of 5.45, 2.16% organic matter (O.M.), 19.23 ppm Phosphorus (P) and 76.83 ppm Potassium (K), respectively. The major soil texture is Loam having an average rice yield of 560 Kg/rai. Similar procedures were followed for Tak province of which an...

Rice production potential zoning of Prachuap Khiri Khan province had been conducted from 2011 to 2013. Research methodology composted of general rice production information collection, soil sampling and crop cutting from farmer field, and field experiment. The research found that there were 4 major rice varieties growing in the area Chainat 1 , Suphanburi 1 , RD31 and Pathum Thani 1. The field experiments for comparing of fertilizer application were conducted 2 seasons at 12 locations. The results showed that L1 area, recommended fertilizer application (T1) gave the average yield of 885 kg/rai, while fertilizer application base on soil analysis (T2) gave the average yield of 785 kg/rai. Farmers’ practice of fertilizer application (T3) gave the average...

Paddy soil in Sing Buri province can be classified into 4 levels as high suitability (soil group 3, 4, 7 and 15), moderately suitability (soil group 21), low suitability (soil group 33) and unsuitability (soil group 38). Moreover, yield production potential of those paddy soils can also be divided into 4 levels as more than 850 kg/rai (R1), 701 - 850 kg/rai (R2), 551 - 700 kg/rai (R3) and less than or equal to 550 kg/rai (R4). Field survey of 547 farmers plantation in Sing Buri province during 2007 - 2009 found that at least five rice varieties, which are PTT1, SPR1, RD31, CNT1 and PSL2 were grown. The common varieties which were PTT1 (90.31%), SPR1 (6.22%) and RD31 (0.91%), respectively were planted by direct seeding method with 25-35 kg/rai seed rate,...

Filter cake is by - product of cane sugar manufacture. It consists of plant nutrient which is useful for soil fertility improvement. According to low fertility of most paddy soils, an experiment had been conducted with combination of chemical fertilizer application and filter cake incorporation for soil fertility and yield improvement in two different soil types in wet season during 1992-2002. This experiment was 4x3 factorial in randomized complete block design, 3 replications, 2 factors with 4 filter cake rates at 0, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 kg/rai and 3 nitrogen rates at 0, 3 and 6 kg N/rai for photo sensitive rice cultivar (Khao Dawk Mali 105) planted in Koksamrong Soil Series (sandy loam, mixed isohyperthermic, typic tropaqualfs) at Lop Buri Rice Research...

The experiment was conducted by growing Phitsanulok 2 rice with appling azolla and tailormade fertilizer under less water in cement containers in a greenhouse. The experiment was a completely randomized design of 5 experiments and 3 replications. It was found that the plant growth rates per week were significantly different among treatments in weeks 6 and 7. Tillering was the highest when using only tailor-made fertilizer and followed by when using tailor-made fertilizer and azolla together. When using azolla and tailor-made fertilizer, the number of spikes, fresh and dry weight of straw, root length, fresh and dry weight of root and grains obtained were higher than those from other treatments. After the experiment, using azolla and tailor-made fertilizer...
